Tablets rule the post PC era...

I'm a huge fan of tablet technology and firmly believe this newly re-imagined form factor will dominate the post PC era. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that the PC is dead, in fact I believe the Personal computer and laptop/notebook will still be around for years to come.
However, the tablet computer is blowing up PC market as consumers show love to them and more industries find new innovative uses for them.

I said 'newly re-imagined' because tablet technology is not new. I used tablet computers back in my tech support days at The Yellow Pages Group (2001) where we would configure and deploy them to our outside sales force. It was basically a Toshiba laptop that had a screen that could fold into a tablet and allow the sales rep to present a customer with a singable digital contract on the spot. It ran some customized version of windows mobile tablet software but I don't think it ever really caught on...

I myself use a 7' Acer Iconia tablet that I totally love. It didn't get good reviews because of the crappy battery life (4.5 hrs) but aside from that, it's a solid piece of hardware. It runs Android Honeycomb 3.2 which was designed specifically for the tablet form factor.
I really like iOS because I also use an iPod touch but I never wanted to spend $600 for an iPad even though it's practically the defacto tablet standard these days. Plus, I prefer the 7' tablet size as i find it more comfortable to hold and transport.
I will also be acquiring a Blackberry Playbook on Friday, so I'll be sure to post a report on my comparison between my Acer and the Playbook. Right now I'm planing on using the android tab for media consumption and blogging while the playbook will be strictly a business tool.

Below are some useful links from Time Mobile and PC World about choosing the right tablet for you if you happen to be in the market for one...

I will end off this report by predicting that in 2/3 yrs time a tablet PC will be as ubiquitous as the PC is in the home and work place....mark my words!
