WD TV™ HD Media Player
Inspired by a good friend recently who was looking for a decent media streaming device, I took it upon myself to check out existing media tech that's currently on the market. As as a fairly sophisticated 'Videophile' that no stranger to various forms of media streaming ranging from Tversity, Air server, Windows Home Media centre, PS3 etc etc, I decided that my current system wasn't cutting it and could be upgraded to something far more efficient.
My research began by checking out the 'Big box' offerings such as Apptle TV, Roku, Boxe Box, Western Digital and a few others not worth mentioning. Straight out ofn the gate the Apple TV device didn't interest me because your pretty much a slave to iTunes unless u Jail break it. The Boxe Box device had me extremely intrigued but after reading multiple reviews, I decided that although this product has promise, I don't think it's quite ready for prime time just yet (it's also a tad pricey at $179).
I finally settled on the WD TV Media unit which turned out to be a fantastic choice. I had this baby setup and streaming in approx 10 min with 0 hiccups and tech issues. This is a Western Digital live 1080 media player. It plays almost all media formats so you don't have to convert files. It's also used to stream movies straight to TV through hdmi or component (I use hdmi). The WD Play's media from your home network and the Internet and u can enjoy access to your Netflix membership and other premium content such as YouTube or FB.
I'm still experimenting with some of the Internet content but streaming movies on my 'ROBNET' network has turned into a real bonus!
