RIM is Finally scaling down their BB Portfolio...

Today BGR posted a report that RIM is only working on ONE BlackBerry 10 smartphone. I think this is definitely a positive move in the right direction. I've long been thinking that RIM has saturated their market with too many brands and confusing identification numbers. I recently updated my Curve (which is awesome) to a 9360...I think, or is it a 9760??? I keep forgetting...Who can remember all these stupid numbers and what's the difference between the Bold 9900 or 9930, 9800 etc etc...
It would be allot less confusing for consumers if they had just one Curve, Bold, Torch etc. Similarly, Apple rules the universe with just one brand of iPhone with incremental upgrades...3,3G,4,4S,5 etc.
This brings to mind the mid 90's when I was a HUGE apple user honing my computer chops with my Power Mac 6800, 7200 and then 8800. Back then John Sculley was running apple with a similar philosophy of multi-branded Power Mac's. Needless to say, John almost ruined Apple with his sub par Supply Chain management and minuscule innovations. It wasn't until Steve Jobs rejoined Apple and eliminated all the excess overhead Power Macs and re-focused the company to one innovative product. The iMac!!!  Which was a hit by the way.
So in my opinion, if RIM can re-focus on ONE smartphone running the BB 10 OS (code name London) and get it right this time coming out the gate, they may just have a fighting chance to stay in business and retain some of the 75% market share they lost last year and salvage they're tarnished rep as an innovative elite Canadian Tech company.
