Many years ago I discovered 3 tech devices that were and still are crucial to my very existence. I don't consider myself an 'early adopter' of technology by any means (because I generally can't afford to be), however, these 3 devices struck such a chord in me, that once I realized how they would benefit and improve my life I knew I had to have them immediately!
Here are the following three products which are the topic of this blog:
1. ipod 3rd Gen MP3 player
2. Garmin Nuvi 200 GPS
3. Tivo Series 2 PVR
The ipod was a revolutionary product to many, however I discovered it around the 3rd generation before it was being sold in Canada. I had to order mine directly from the Apple Website at considerable cost but it was totally worth it because I had always dreamed of such a device that could hold almost limitless music and would surpass the 'Walkman' and 'portable CD Player'. I consider my 3rd Gen, 4th Gen and ipod classic devices vital to my everyday life, (Plus, I can't workout without them).
My Garmin GPS is critical to my everyday travel because I'm directionally challenged and map quest just doesn't do it for me. I first discovered this product a few years ago while taking a Linux course in Toronto. They had some out of town guys that were using Tom Tom's (another brand of personal GPS) to get around. I had heard of GPS (Global Positioning System) before but I always thought they were simply built into fancy cars. I had never seen such a tiny portable, personal device that u could simply type in an address and have it point-by-point direct you to your destination. For me, this was simply a dream come true that I knew I couldn't live without. I travel with that same Garmin Nuvi 200 today in town and out of town and goes every where I go so I never get hopelessly lost anymore.
My third and final product is my beloved Tivo series 2 PVR. As an avid TV watcher, busy Tech blogger and Father of 2, most days I just don't have the time to keep up with all the scripted cable TV shows that I enjoy.
And thus, my life used to be a misery of multiple VHS tapes scattered everywhere UNTIL I discovered that beautiful 'Personal Video Recorder' called Tivo. No-longer am I a slave to the cable networks TV schedule. With Tivo and Bell ExpressVu Time shifting, I can record and watch what I want, when I want. It's a couch potato's dream come true!!
So that concludes my personal favorite tech gadget retrospective. All three of these consumer tech devices caused major 'light-bulb' moments for me because I instantly knew how they would transform how I interact with Music, Travel and Television. Hopefully, at least one of these devices has brought u just as much Joy, convenience and entertainment as they have for me. If not, go to Best Buy or Future Shop now and pick one up;)
